Patternbank
For the Patternbank project my brief was monochrome blowup. For research I was inspired by Maurizio Anzeri, Andy Warhol and Pablo Picasso among others. I also looked at fashion brands Moschino, Christian Siriano and Alexander McQueen. In response to the research, most of my designs started out as free hand machine stitched pieces that I then recreated as flowing line drawings. I chose this style because I felt is was fun and youthful which suited the target market this collection is aimed at.
Biophilia in Fashion
For 'Biophilia in Fashion' I have attempted to make a cohesive collection of fashion textiles that have been inspired by nature and the design theories of biophilia. I was inspired to focus on the theme of biophilia after carrying out extensive research on the topic whilst writing my dissertation. To bring the idea of biophilia into my work I have attempted to implement texture into the collection as the ability to touch and feel nature is described by theorist such as Stephen Kellert and Elizabeth Calabrese as a crucial part of biophilic design. To do this I used embroidery, which allowed the pieces to become very tactile. I have also tried to include visual texture which I achieved by using different making methods such as reduction lino printing.
The imagery that I have used is mostly tropical themed which was inspired by places such as Plantasiaand the National Botanical Gardens, which I visited during the summer as part of my ongoing research for this project.
